I had the honour of being invited to give an online talk on the behavioural adaptations of cave spiders at the hugely popular interactive entoLIVE webinars organised by the Biological Recording Company, the British Entomological and Natural History Society, the Amateur Entomologists’ Society and the Royal Entomological Society. The aim of these webinars is to connect academic research on invertebrates with a wider audience consisting of biological recorders, amateur naturalists, conservation practitioners and ecological consultants.
I delivered my talk entitled ‘Cave Spiders: Behavioural Adaptations in Webs, Foraging and Dispersal‘ earlier this week. In the talk, I discussed the general ecology of caves and then introduced the fascinating behaviours of the cave orb spider (Meta menardi) including outlining the potential behavioural adaptations for novel prey capture of their unique orb webs.
